Stating that Turkey will become a world leader in sports camps in the next 2-3 years, Turkish Travel Agencies Association (TÜRSAB) Sports Tourism Specialization President Recep Şamil Yaşacan said, “Turkish teams will no longer go to European countries in summer camps. Teams from Europe will come here. Turkey has the capacity to host 500 football teams at the same time," he said.

Recep Şamil Yaşacan, President of TÜRSAB Sports Specialization and Cycling Tourism Association, made statements about sports tourism, which has recently come to the fore, apart from sea, sand and sun. Stating that there are 200 football fields in Antalya, the tourism city, for domestic and foreign teams, Yaşacan pointed out that the importance of Antalya and Turkey will increase in the coming period. Stating that the history of sports tourism in Antalya dates back to 20 years, Yaşacan said, “Currently, we only have 200 football fields in the Antalya region in accordance with FIFA standards. Our quality ratio is very high. Among the main reasons for the arrival of so many football teams are the logistics and the favorable weather conditions in winter. Antalya has become not only a football but also a sports camp center. There are facilities for all kinds of sports in Antalya," he said.

Emphasizing that Turkey is the center of teams that want to camp not only in winter but also in summer, Yaşacan said, “Erciyes is one of our most developed and popular summer campgrounds. Turkey has come to a position to compete with the world both in football and in other branches. Isparta made an attack in these campsites in Burdur. We compete with Austria, Switzerland, Germany and the Netherlands in football and sports camps in the summer. Turkish teams will no longer go to European countries in summer camps. Teams from Europe will come here. Antalya opened the winter camp period early this year because of the world cup held in Qatar.

Stating that 10 national teams are still camping in Antalya, Yaşacan said, “Gabon, Kenya, Nigeria, Libya and Guinea national teams are here. Teams that did not participate in the World Cup in Qatar came here. Italian, English, French and German teams also started to arrive. A team of athletes in all kinds of branches is currently camping in Antalya. Our Ministry of Tourism is doing very good work in this regard. Cycling tourism has started to come to the fore. Cycling is better than golf. It will be a bike friendly hotel. He will come here with rich and qualified tourists.

Adding that sports tourism is the promotional face of Turkey, Yaşacan said, “The advertising rate is a hundred times higher than the regular advertisements. If such convoys continue to come to our country, it will contribute more to the promotion. Our country is aware of this and is investing in it. Turkey will be number 1 in the world in sports containers in 2-3 years. Incoming foreign teams leave serious foreign currency. Currently, Turkey has the accommodation power to host 500 football teams at once. If an athlete takes a selfie and shares it on his social media, millions of people see it," he said.
